I am now going to do what
feels like, to me, a very indulgent thing. I'm going to talk about
myself. The purpose of which is to provide further insight into the rest
of this blog.
I was born and grew up in
the Southeastern United States, specifically in the state of Georgia.
Sometime around the age of nine I began to attend monthly rituals with the now
defunct Church of Rhiannon (CoR) with my Dad and uncle. I make no claims
to hereditary lineage or the like. I, however, was exposed to and raised
in and around Contemporary Paganism. It was during the time with CoR,
that I took on the name Spanish Moss. The name is dear to me and my
preferred name of use outside of my profession and my birth immediate family.
After High School, I
enlisted in the military and am eligible to retire in a few years. As
such, I move every handful of years and have to relearn the local landscape and
my Craft in that regards to reorient it to the place. It is also the
reason that I have been initiated into multiple traditional covens across three
Traditions.
With that said, I am an
initiate of the Eternal Harvest Tradition of Witchcraft. Which is a form
of traditional witchcraft found here in the U.S. that is Traditional Wicca
inspired, but makes no assertion to being of the Wica, along with other American
magickal and occult influences. I am also of the Wica. Therefrom I
am both an Alexandrian and a Gardnerian. None of these were planned but
when you Seek and then find your hidden tribe, it is not always as planned.
I also have a B.A. in
Religion and am influenced in my personal practice by a wide range of other
spiritual and magickal currents. These have been or are currently:
Cunning Craft (Cochrane derived Witchcraft), Rootwork, Strategic Sorcery,
Rinzai Zen, Irish Reconstructionism, American Druidism, British Druidry, and
grimoire work particularly the Red Work Courses of Fr. RO. In truth, I
have some level of training in almost all of these but to list them all feels
too self-centric for this brief bio. There are also many things left unsaid
for the same reason.
I have three kids and am
married. My wife is a wonderful High Priestess, Witch, and my working
partner in many areas of the Craft.
It is my hope that this
brief overview of who I am and my background helps provide a better context to
the Thicket of the Witch.
Boidh Se,
-SM
