Oimelc: Our Providence Over Death

Today’s blog will be short, but I wanted to share a few thoughts I had this morning.  It is Oimelc (Imbolg), La Le Bride (Day with Brigit), or Candlemas, all depending a bit on your background. Regardless it is an auspicious day full of potential to be harnessed by the Witch.

Amongst other things today is about that which nurtures.  It is about the rising sap, about the mother’s milk, and about the growing light.  It is also about the awakening of the land.

For Witches though, there are many lessons that can be gleamed from these few pieces of lore, let alone when combined with the plethora of what circles this day’s practices.  Today that which is awakened and nurtured, and tended, will marry the land later at our Bealtaine; our spiritual self will become sovereign over the landscape through which it wanders.  If we as Witches stay the path, and continue to nurture and work the flame, sacrificing what needs to be sacrificed, then that which is awakened in the pre-dawn light that is Candlemas will eventually sit in dominion over death, and the Wheel of Life, come our own Samhain.

Take heed then and figure out that which nurtures and become like the mother caring for the babe suckling at her breast.  Care for that which will give you providence over death through the winter.

Happy Imbolc!
